BAT dedicates the run of The Twelve Dates of Christmas to the memory of its Board President, Scott Gifford, who was taken from us too soon. Scott led BAT through the fire, the loss of our venue at the Annex, and was spearheading BAT's dive to build a 300-seat performing and visual arts venue in South King County. His gentle nature and drive are deeply missed.

Trouble in Mind a comedy-drama by Alice Childress debuted Off-Broadway in 1955. It was awarded an Obie Award in 1956 for best original Off-Broadway production, making her the first African-American woman to win an Obie. Trouble in Mind was “re-discovered” and had its Broadway premiere on November 18, 2021. Join us to see what makes this play worth attending 70 years after it was written!

A talented and experienced Black actress has been cast in Chaos in Belleville, an anti-lynching play set to open on Broadway. She had paid her dues throughout the years, playing stereotypical supporting roles in second-rate shows, and is ready for her star turn. Chaos in Belleville, written by a White playwright, might not be quite as enlightened a piece as she's been hoping for — but that doesn't mean it won't sell out.

And selling out is the question at the heart of Alice Childress's comedy-drama, set in 1957. A cast of multigenerational Black actors rehearse under the purview of a White director and stage manager, and as the rehearsal process unfolds, theater conventions and racial politics collide.

Run Time: 2 hours and 10 minutes, including one intermission.

Red, by John Logan

April 12 through May 5, 2024. (No performance on Sunday, April 28, 2024.) - Fridays at Saturdays at 8, Sundays at 2, at the Kennedy Catholic High School theater space (140 S 140th St, Burien, WA 98168) - free parking and entrance around the back of the building - follow the signs!

Winner of the 2010 Tony Award for Best Play, Red takes us into the mind of abstract expressionist Mark Rothko, for whom paintings are “pulsating” life forces and art is intended to stop the heart. Raw and provocative, but with snippets of humor, Red chronicles the tormented painter’s two-year struggle to complete a lucrative set of murals for Manhattan’s exclusive Four Seasons restaurant, and his fraught relationship with a seemingly naïve young assistant, who must choose between appeasing his mentor—and changing the course of art history.

This Summer, BAT takes it to the Parks!

Fallen Angels a family-friendly comedy by the English playwright Noël Coward, adapted by Rachel Rene

When the love grows but the passion fizzles in Jane and Julia’s respective marriages, the two best friends freak over a sudden visit from the far-out Frenchman they both had flings with before marriage. Can these hilarious, chaos-causing chicks mellow out and get real? A family-friendly, totally ‘70s adaptation of the 1925 classic.

"Admission" is free! But bring a chair or blanket to sit on!

Support our local eateries. Dine out before or after, or bring takeout with you!

A special shout-out to the following wonderful sponsors for helping us bring Fallen Angels to the parks: The City of Burien, the City of Des Moines, the City of SeaTac, the City of Normandy Park, and 4Culture through the lodging tax.

She sends her love to her friends and family for their consistent encouragement and support, but mostly to the cat.

Cast:

Julia Sterroll          Prisca Kim

Prisca Kim (Julia) is delighted to take the stage as Julia Sterroll, marking a triumphant return to acting since her groundbreaking portrayal of a talking potato at her elementary school play. She brings a natural flair for both comedy and drama honed from years of navigating awkward social situations and impromptu performances in front of her bedroom mirror. Off stage, Prisca enjoys exploring new places, reading, writing, singing, and playing piano. After working ten years in the nonprofit field, she is now a therapist-in-training. She holds a steadfast belief in the transformative power of storytelling and feels privileged to be a part of that process.

Prisca is grateful to make her acting debut with BAT Theater and thanks the wonderful cast and crew for this memorable experience. She also extends her love to her partner Jeff and two children JJ and Hansol for their never-ending support, as well as her instructors and classmates at Freehold Theater for being a source of inspiration and encouragement in this adventure.

Fred Sterroll          Gerald G. Price

Gerald Germajesty Price (Fred), a Chicago native, has dazzled the stage, commercials, and sound booths for over two decades. He honed his craft as an actor, vocalist, and voiceover artist with Infini Entertainment Company and ActOne Studios. Inducted into the International Thespian Society in 2005 (a title he swears came with a secret handshake), Gerald expanded his talents at Victory Gardens Theatre while simultaneously training under director Ann Witting. At Illinois State University, He tackled classical techniques like Meisner, Stanislavski, Method Acting, and Iambic Pentameter, earning a dual Bachelor of Science degree in Performance Theatre-Acting and Theatre Studies-Directing.

With an MBA, two advanced diplomas, and seven certifications, Gerald is pursuing a Doctor of Business Administration in Global Leadership and Change Strategy. Balancing "show" and "business," Gerald epitomizes the modern Renaissance man—minus the tights.

Willy Banbury        Rex Waters

Rex Waters (Willy) - Excited to be returning for BAT's summer show in the parks, Rex is anxious to work on another riotous adaptation. Usually behind the scenes, he relishes a chance to portray a character onstage. Great thanks are extended to Eric, Maggie and Rachel for this opportunity. And much appreciation to you for attending. Without your support theater in the parks would not be possible. Thank you.

Her previous work in the area included Joyce in And A Nightingale Sang at Burien Little Theater, Miss Casewell in The Mousetrap, the Princess of France in Love’s Labors Lost, and other roles in Seattle, San Francisco, San Diego, and Spokane. She is grateful to BAT and Saunders for helping her to appreciate her own eclectic life experiences. She would like to thank her family, especially her husband, Steve, for his support while she’s been gone all these evenings on this adventure.

Maurice Duclos     Amit Rosenberg

Amit Rosenberg (Maurice, Stage Crew) - After moving to Washington from Israel at the tender age of four, Amit soon began acting. His first role was Charlie in Cherry Crest Elementary School’s production of Charlie and the Chocolate Factory. Then, after taking a decades long break from acting, he returned to it in 2018 after being inspired by HBO’s “Barry”. Since then, he has taken numerous classes at Freehold Theatre and elsewhere, and has acted both in film and on stage. His most recent credits include Theatre Black Dog’s production of The Importance of Being Ernest and Susan Carr’s short film Unexpected Grace. He is excited to bring what he has learned to Fallen Angels. Go Hawks!

Production Team:

Properties Designer, Set Dresser - Cyndi Baumgardner has worked in theatre, dare she admit, for decades. In earlier years she managed or produced shows. More recently she has worked mostly in properties design and set dressing, which is fun and a lot less work! Cyndi returned to stage management, after quite a hiatus, for Red, BAT’s last production.

BAT’s Summer in the Parks series started with a call from the SeaTac Parks Department. It was looking for a Park Show in addition to Shakespeare, and BAT could not pass up that challenge.

Starting in 2019, BAT took it to the parks. We find funny, family-friendly shows recently added to the public domain and give them to our talented staff, led by Rachel Rene. The shows are updated and trimmed to make them more accessible and fit into the 90-minute in-the-parks sweet spot.
